ENTREVISTA A AMANDA GHOST

PREGNANT songwriter Amanda Ghost is the real voice behind Beyonce and Shakira's smash hit Beautiful Liar - after penning the song in the back of a taxi.British-born Amanda, 32, penned the No.1 single after meeting Beyonce's boyfriend, record mogul and artist Jay Z.But Beyonce gave her just 24 hours to finish the song and she ended up jotting down the lyrics in the back of a New York cab as she headed to the recording studio to meet the ex-Destiny's Child singer. As she celebrated getting to No.1 this week, Amanda - who also wrote James Blunt's You're Beautiful, said: "I met Jay Z a year ago and he liked my work. He said 'My girlfriend needs a song. Would you meet her?' and I said yes."We met in New York and I had a day to write it because she was going to record it the next day, so I had to write it in a cab in New York."The thing about songs is they go round in your head so it doesn't matter where you are. I wrote it partly in the taxi, partly in the hotel and partly in the shower. I wrote it down in the cab and she loved it, which was very lucky."Amanda is in demand because she manages to put feelings and emotions into words. She explained: "It is a lot of fun because you don't have to focus on your own problems and demons. You can just let it out. You try and put yourself in the position of the person who is singing."It is almost like a therapy session when I sit down with artists. I want to know what is going on inside their heads, what is going on in their lives. I want to know what is making them happy and what is making them sad. Then I channel all that into a song."With Beyonce and Beautiful Liar, I knew it was going to be a duet with Shakira and I didn't want it to be the whole fighting over a guy thing. The idea is the guy is a dog and they find out they are seeing the same person but instead of fighting over him, they say, forget him, he is a beautiful liar. Let's get on with our lives."She's been through that and every girl has had a guy lie to them. It's a topic every woman out there can relate to."She wanted it to be about female strength and empowerment and that gave me the inspiration."Troubled pop singers Britney Spears and Whitney Houston have both turned to Amanda to help them express their soap opera lifestyles. She has written songs for both of them ahead of comeback bids and revealed Britney has already checked into a studio to sing Amanda's songs.Amanda admitted: "I was doing some songs for Whitney on her new record and I have been doing some songs for Britney and some stuff for Shakira."Whitney and Britney have given us a lot to write about and have a lot of emotional experience to tap into."I have just done a couple of songs with each of them and I don't know if they will go on their albums yet. I can't tell you what the songs are about because they might never come out."I didn't meet Britney. I just did the song for her and she did the vocals last Friday. She is getting on with her life."I met Whitney who is lovely. I think she is getting ready to put a record out again and is really focussing on that and trying to get back in the studio."She is such an amazing singer, I'm sure that whatever she puts out will be a success."And Amanda has revealed she penned You're Beautiful with former army captain Blunt while he was still on active duty, five years before he shot to the top of the charts with the song."She said: "I met James when he was in the army. He didn't have a manager and he didn't have a record deal or a publishing deal. I was living in Los Angeles and had just put out my first album and had some time on my hands. He said he really wanted to write with me so I invited him over to Los Angeles where I now live."One of the songs we wrote was You're Beautiful, then five years later, he got a record deal and put it out and it was a huge hit."While celebrating her success, Amanda insists up and coming songwriters simply need to write about what they know to have a chance of replicating her achievements."I've been writing songs for seven or eight years and it is fantastic to suddenly be getting recognition and having these songs performed by artists who I admire," she said. "It's lovely and is the result of a lot of perseverance. Songwriting is five per cent inspiration and 95 per cent perspiration. It's a lot of work and is a craft you learn over many years."My advice to any songwriter is to try to be as honest as you can and to try to make it mean something because if it doesn't mean something to you, it won't mean anything to anyone else."Her main priority now though, is the baby she is expecting next month. Amanda, who is married to Scots-born TV producer Gregor Cameron, then plans to establish herself as an artist in her own right. She said: "I'm eight months pregnant. I'm putting out a record next January. It's very difficult to tour and promote a record when you are pregnant so I took this year off from being an artist and I am just focussing on the songwriting which is going so well. It's all good because the attention I get as a songwriter will hopefully reflect on the material I put out next year."
